Timor-Leste is a small impoverished country on the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago. This program addresses food security for upland farmers who live below the poverty line of $1 a day and are subject to extreme weather conditions and high grain losses due to pests and improper storage. The program focuses on improved methods for the cultivation and storage of maize, one of the two most important crops in the area. This is the second phase of the Timor Leste - Viqueque program and it builds on the successes of the first program which reached 600 households in 3 villages. The second phase focuses on 3 additional villages in Viqueque District.
