Growing Project hosts Nativity Display for FRB

Friendship Christian Reformed Church in Byron Center ushered in December with a display of Nativity sets from 29 different countries during a "Come to Bethlehem" ladies dinner and Saturday Open House. More than 350 people enjoyed the display.

FRB’s Bev Abma nominated for World Food Prize

Bev Abma, FRB’s longtime Executive Director of Overseas Programming, got a big surprise at her August 10, 2013 retirement celebration in Byron Center MI.  Foods Resource Bank had nominated her for the prestigious World Food Prize (WFP) for 2013, in the areas of nutrition, rural development, social organization, and poverty elimination.  The prize is awarded each year to persons who become role models for advancing human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. Doesn’t that fit Bev Abma to a T?

Longtime FRB volunteer receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Norm Braksick of the Kalamazoo/Portage MI office of Foods Resource Bank (FRB) recently received President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) for Lifetime Achievement, in recognition of his many years of volunteer service, not only to FRB but to other organizations and causes. 

A minimum of 4000 hours of volunteering over a lifetime is required to obtain this award, and Norm has far surpassed that figure at FRB alone as volunteer Executive Director of Foods Resource Bank from 2000-2005, and volunteer Regional Development Staff from 2005 to the present.

Friendship CRC was the beautiful and uplifting setting for Foods Resource Bank’s summer board meeting and annual gathering August 8-10.  FRB extends its sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who warmly welcomed, guided, fed, informed, and entertained the nearly 300 guests.
